How does a GM throttle body relearn procedure ... 1) Start the engine and let it idle in park for 3 minutes. During that period the idle may be higher idle than normal. 2) After 3 minutes, turn the engine off and leave it off for 60- seconds. 3) Start the engine again and let it idle in park for 3 minutes one more time.

What is an idle relearn procedure?
An idle relearn procedure is a way to reprogram the vehicle's computer memory to idle at a specified RPM, or revolutions per minute.
How do I perform a throttle/idle Relearn on a GM vehicle?
After cleaning the throttle body on a GM vehicle, you may need to perform a throttle/idle relearn. Performing a throttle relearn on GM throttle-by-wire vehicles can easily be done with the Mac Tools Mentor Touch Scout, No. ET6100. For example, to perform a throttle relearn on a 2008 Silverado 5.3L, select and run the Idle Learn Reset test.
What is idle Relearn on a Chevy?
Function An idle relearn procedure is a way to reprogram the vehicle's computer memory to idle at a specified RPM, or revolutions per minute. Without the programmed idle, the vehicle can run arbitrarily, resulting in unnecessary engine wear. Chevy uses a simple idle relearn process.
How do you warm up the engine after Idle relearn?
Blue Streak Electronics recommends to warm the engine after the idle relearn procedure, without use of the air conditioner. After the engine is warm, switch the air conditioning on and off, and then put the transmission into the "drive" position.

How do you reset a GM throttle position sensor?
The easiest way to reset your throttle position sensor is to unhook the negative cable from your battery for up to five minutes or to remove the fuse for your engine control module.
What happens if you don't relearn your throttle body?
What happens when you replace the throttle body? If you replace the throttle body, the PCM won't know and will continue to use the adaptive settings as if the carbon buildup is still in place. If you don't do a relearn procedure, the PCM will “hunt” for a new baseline idle.

How do you reset throttle body after replacing?
Leave the key off for a moment, turn the key to the "On" position again, wait 3 seconds, and press the accelerator 5 times in 5 seconds. Wait 7 seconds, and hold the accelerator down. The check engine light should start blinking, continue to hold pedal down until it stops blinking. You can then start the car.
What does an idle relearn fix?
In the event you are experiencing an erratic idle after loading a tune or after performing any action that clears KAM (Keep Alive Memory), an Idle Relearn can help you get back on track. The KAM or “Keep Alive Memory” is the memory that is stored in the powertrain control module (PCM).
Do you have to reset computer after replacing throttle position sensor?
After replacing the throttle body to your engine, if the engine light was on and has a pending code, the code will go away. If the code was a hard permanent code, then the ECM (computer) would need a hard reset.

How to reset idle on a Chevy?
Chevy uses a simple idle relearn process. After you replace the computer chip, it will automatically reset itself when you turn the ignition key from the "on" position to the "off" position. Blue Streak Electronics recommends to warm the engine after the idle relearn procedure, without use of the air conditioner. After the engine is warm, switch the air conditioning on and off, and then put the transmission into the "drive" position. These actions complete the full idle relearn procedure.

Can you throttle relearn without a scan tool?
Throttle relearn can also be done without a scan tool, essentially by letting the vehicle idle in park for several minutes and allowing time for the ECM to learn. See appropriate service information for vehicle specific procedures and details if you wish to perform a throttle relearn in this way. Information provided by Mac Tools.
How long to relearn Passkey II?
To perform a relearn on a Passkey II system, make sure there is a fully charged battery in the vehicle. The battery will be used for 30 minutes without the alternator available for charging. Connect a battery charger to the battery to ensure power is available while programming.
How does Passkey III work?
The Passkey III anti-theft system uses a transponder inside the head of the ignition key. The exciter inside the ignition lock cylinder energizes this transponder when the ignition switch is turned on. The transponder transmits a unique signature to the theft deterrent control module. If the key signature transmitted is acceptable to the theft deterrent control module, the theft deterrent control module will transmit fuel enable password to the PCM. If the fuel enable password is correct, the PCM will start the vehicle.
What happens if resistance value read by BCM is what the BCM is expecting?
If resistance value read by the BCM is what the BCM is expecting, the BCM will send a message over serial data to the PCM informing the PCM that a valid key is present and the PCM may start the vehicle. To perform a relearn on a Passkey II system, make sure there is a fully charged battery in the vehicle.
Do you relearn a VATS key?
No relearn is required on a VATS equipped vehicle when replacing the PCM. Passkey – The Passkey system has a separate module called the Theft Deterrent Module (TDM) that validates the resistive chip in the ignition key.

Truck threw the code for throttle body sensor (3rd time this has happened in 90k miles of driving). I decided to clean it and it was absolutely filthy considering Throttle body was new 30k ago (pic below). Cleaned the MAF sensor and air filter while I was at it. Put it all back together, code is gone, but I can’t get it to idle correctly again.

The Tb relearn is more a idle and drive control to learn the air value. I would also clean the intake tube and the two valve cove vents. Sorry but have to ask....do you have a catchcan ? If so not on the valve cover breather tubes? Also makes me wonder how your maf is doing... Oh and you do not need a any tools for the tb relearn.

In the tune it says pedal % is what "resets" the tb air flow tables. So as stupid as it sounds you need to wot then let off. Then it can calculate max air flow. In tune we reduce that relearn when we have big cans so we get a recalibration before we data log for fuel tables. Looks like oil....if you work in dust alot maybe a pre filter would help.

Go back to OEM intake into the fender and use the Heavy Duty AC Delco paper filter. That is all outside contamination adhering to the TB.

If you have any kind of decent filter that is not dirt/dust from outside IMO. That looks like oily gunk from the engine. The light volotiles go through the engine leaving oily film behind. A catch can or as suggested venting thru a filter to atmosphere would help IMO. Try one of those and you should quickly tell the difference.

How long to run a relearning engine?
Start the engine and run it as close to idle speed as possible until it reaches its normal operating temperature. 2. Run it for approximately 2 minutes at 1200 RPM. 3. Drive the vehicle as far as necessary, approximately 5 miles of varied driving conditions is usually sufficient to complete the relearning process.
How to run a car with a cooling fan?
STEP TWO: Run the engine up to operating temperature and shut off. STEP THREE: Apply the parking brake. Start the vehicle and place it in drive (A/T), or neutral (manual). STEP FOUR: Run the engine until the cooling fan has cycled on and off, or for a maximum of 10 minutes.
