What is a Ford Ranger?

The compact pickup truck known as the Ford Ranger enjoyed almost absolute dominance among its rivals in North America. Not only was it specially constructed to meet specific requirements of Americans, but its durability and fuel efficiency are still something to admire. Appearing in 1983, it was in many ways similar to the bigger F-Series, only it had a shorter wheelbase (107 inches, to be precise) and more modest powertrain. The latter was compensated immediately by providing a 4-wheel drive capability, and later by gradually increasing the output. The 90's version of the Ranger typically had either a 2.3-liter I4 engine or a 3.0/4.0-liter V6 that was paired to a 5-speed manual/automatic gearbox. The 'classic' Ranger experienced a facelift in 2001, and again in 2010, although one should not confuse those models with the most recent international T6 ones, that are a different story.
