USPS Informed Delivery is a free service that allows you to track packages and view scanned images of the exterior of your mail. Not all packages are scanned and added to the Informed Delivery system, so it’s not a comprehensive list of all your mail. Is Informed Delivery a good idea? Informed Delivery is a great way to keep track of your mail.
Why is Informed Delivery not working?
One of the most common informed delivery problems is that no image of the mail piece can be seen on your account. If your mail piece is larger than the standard size of an envelope, then you will not receive an image of it. Why? USPS Informed Delivery simply doesn’t offer the image service for large mail pieces at this time (unfortunate, but true).

What is sorting letters in delivery order?
The machines that are sorting letters in delivery order for your mail carrier are creating those pictures. It is done at very high speed and not a separate function. The pictures are used by the Optical Character Reader to find the barcode and sort the mail. Since the barcode is not always in the same place it needs to photograph the entire piece.
Does sending a photo delay mail?
Sending you the photo does not de lay the mail in any way. There are machines which can sort LETTER SIZED mail into delivery sequence. A feature was added to the machines that also can snap a quick photo of the FRONT of the mailpiece. The automatic sorting process was not lengthened by adding this feature.
