I was in Trader Joe's yesterday and guess what I found? Fresh Calif. figs in 1 lb containers! They are black figs with a strawberry center, very sweet and tasty. The fruit is fairly small though, size of a quarter or just a bit bigger. I was able to eat the skin as it was very thin. I don't know the variety.

Black mission, of course. They are ok when you buy them dried in a container but they are uncomparable in taste when you sun dry them yourself (without the crappy preservative that is added to the container figs). There is a 37 acre black mission orchard up here in northern California.
