I took it completely apart and there was a motor with a string on it. The string screwed into a little hole above the motor. Is that the wire you are referring to? It looked like the motor was free spinning and the string allowed it to curl around. Not sure if that is right or not.

Funny story. I have been running into this exact issue. Well, today I was doing a little searching around for a fix, and I ran into a youtube video that states covering the 4 front ledge sensors on the (essentially deactivating them) will alleviate this issue.
