Tips For The Best Chaffle Recipe (Crispy, Not Eggy!)

I have a few tricks to make your chaffles both crispy (YUM!) and not taste super eggy.

Chaffle Maker Options

I own two types of waffle makers and tested this chaffle recipe in both. Here are the ones I recommend:

Chaffle Nutrition Info & Carb Count

The calories and carbs in chaffles will vary depending on the version you make and what you put in them. The chaffle recipe chart below shows the nutrition info for all the different versions.

Shredded Cheese

Mozzarella cheese is preferred because it is mild tasting. I do not recommend substituting any other type of cheese as it many can add an undesirable bold flavor to the waffle.

Dry Ingredients

You will need a combination of baking powder and coconut flour. Do not substitute the same amount of almond flour. If you do, it will make the chaffles soggy. Coconut flour absorbs more moisture so it makes the chaffles crispy.

Mix ingredients

All you have to do is mix all 4 ingredients together in a small bowl. You don’t have to mix them too much, just until they are completely combined.

Cook

Grease your mini waffle maker and then spoon half of the batter in the middle of the bottom plate. It should look just like my photo below.

Do chaffles taste like eggs?

No, these chaffles do not taste like eggs. They are a very plain chaffle and have a mild flavor that doesn’t really have one specific taste. This is why it is so fun to experiment with them.

Are chaffles good for meal prep?

Yes, I love using chaffles as part of my meal prep! Since they reheat so well in the toaster, you can eat them as a low-carb bread replacement for sandwiches.

Notes

Larger batches can be made to have pre-made chaffles to enjoy later. Cooked waffles can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week or up to 3 months in the refrigerator. Herbs and seasonings can be added to the batter to change up the taste. Try adding in an everything bagel mix, onion powder, or garlic powder.

How to Make Keto Cornbread Chaffles

This recipe only needs a few ingredients but a few of them are very important and I suggest not make any substitutions. For a true cornbread flavor, you will want to be sure you use corn extract and be sure it is food grade and not one that is an essential oil.

Cooking Chaffles in a Mini Dash Waffle Iron

To cook these chaffles, preheat your waffle iron for 3-5 minutes. Once it is ready, you will cook one at a time using ⅓ of the batter for each chaffle. Let it cook for 4-5 minutes until it is the level of doneness you prefer. I like mine pretty crispy and done so I let it cook 5 minutes in my Mini Dash chaffle/waffle maker.
