I know I should love oak, but I don't. Is there some type of procedure that could be followed to make new (never finished) oak cabinets look like cherry? Is there a way to cover the grain and transform these cabinets? I know from previous questions that there's talent here on this board as well as experience. Please share what you know.

IMO... No matter how well you filled-in the Oak grain, sanded, re-grained (with a graining tool), etc.... It would be very hard to make it look good enough. I'm just not sure It'd be worth all the work...for an unknown result!!!
Can Oak cabinets be refinished to Cherry color cabinets?
We are buying a house that has old oak cabinets from 80's. Can they be refinished to make them looks like Cherry cabinets? Oak has so much grains, I wonder if something can be applied and then stained to get much smoother modern look? Thanks

My neighbor just did that with her dated "Golden Oak" cabinets that had turned rather orange over the years. The color turned out nice after she had the cabinets stripped and sanded then re-stained. The only "problem" is that the oak has such a distinctive grain that there is no fooling anyone that her cabinets are cherry.
