In DS bedroom we have (cheap) carpet and no underlay and it is fine. Don't get the door bar from them. They are far cheaper to buy from B and Q and put down yourself - dead easy.

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to lay hessian-backed carpets without underlay or grippers (like you would lay felt-baked carpet), just on bare floorboards? Could the carpet still look professional or would it look awful? (I'm booking a professional fitter).
