Re: Can you spray paint rope light?
Thank You Now I wish I would of bought all of the clear rope light after Christmas.
Re: Can you spray paint rope light?
I think your issue is whether the paint will stick to the plastic in the rope light...
Re: Can you spray paint rope light?
Rope light has a high level of silicone in the plastic, that's what makes it flexible, to the best of my knowledge through 30 years of spray painting all types of materials, paint does not stick to silicone. I just tried a little on a scrap, it forms up into little beads if you spray it wet, if you just dust it dry, it paints, but you can take a paper towel and wipe it off..
Re: Can you spray paint rope light?
If you take acetone and wipe it down first you will take most of the silicone off. Then use a scotch bright pad to give the shell some tooth.Once you do that dust the first coat on dry...Then give another coat after 24 hours or you can go to your local body shop and get some candy color off them in the color you want.Basically they will say they do not do candies but you tell them this.Mix 50% color into 50% clear with no harder in it but get them to put some hardener in a separate container. Also get them to put a flex agent into the paint (they use this stuff on all the flexible parts of your car) then give it 2 coats to achieve full coverage then get some clear off the same shop and give it 2 coats.Instead of thinning the clear get the guy to put flex agent in it and use the same hardener and you will have a finish that will not ship, peal or break off...I have tried this and it does work but again it is alot of work. You would be better off going to your local music shop (they sell guitars etc...) and get lens covers (plastic that goes over stuff like this) and get the color you want....
Re: Can you spray paint rope light?
If with some work you can paint rope light, any way of painting a clear mini to last a season or 2?
Re: Can you spray paint rope light?
Yes you can...Use a transparent paint but on glass you gotta worry about heat but if done correctly they can last...Mine are 5 years old and look like new.Only problem is they scratch easily and there is no cure for it... The steps to glass floods is this Wipe the glass with rubbing alcohol to clean them...Spray a light (dust) coat and let sit over night in a warm area. Next night spray another coat to even out color then let dry. Next night give em a try if it is not dark enough let the bulbs cool.Spray them till the desired color is achieved. The bulbs will be dull not shiney when totally dry which is great...Uniform color is what you are after in the end...Same method applies to any glass bulb be it mini's or whatever... Hope this helps...
Old Christmas Ornaments
We have had the same Christmas ornaments for almost ten years. We bought some very inexpensive ornaments when we were first married, and I have always done the blue and silver tree. Now four houses and four children later, I wanted to do something different.
The Colorful Plan
This year I wanted to create a colorful tree that would be fun for the kids. We are totally at the Christmas tree stage where it’s full of handmade and sentimental ornaments, and I love it. I’m embracing it this year, and going all out with the color.
Spray Paint Your Ornaments
I had planned to spray paint them outside, but any little bit of wind blew the ornaments around. So I moved into the garage and spray painted them on a sheet of plywood. There’s probably a better way to do it, because my ornaments kept rolling around, which smudged the paint and picked up dust.
Add Some Bling
I also had a can of spray glitter that I used on most of the ornaments. I ran out of that can too, so on a few of them I used my spray adhesive and dipped the bottom half of the ornaments in sparkly glitter.
Spray Paint Christmas Ornaments
I’d love to know what you think of my spray painted Christmas tree ornaments! Have you ever tried something like this?
