Why are my Azek edges turning black?
Edge/End Grain. The edge and end grain in Azek is more porous than the faces of the Azek. This edge and end grain will tend to hold water longer after moisture (rain, morning dew, etc.) This is why you will see the edges turn black and often green with mold and mildew when left unpainted.

How does it machine with other power tools? How about hand planes? The only composite (don't know what it was called) I've worked with seemed a lot like plastic. I don't think that it would be dangerous and don't think that it would cause any damage to the planer or knives, but that's just me.
