are there cardinal birds in oregon

by Bert Stanton Published 3 years ago Updated 2 years ago

This is not a good-quality photo, but since it was taken in Oregon it is significant. There may have been earlier reports of Northern Cardinal in this state, but as far as I know none have been verified by photos. I was invited to a private residence not far from where I live in Yamhill Co. to see this bird, and sure enough... it's a Cardinal!

Range: Eastern and central North America, extending from Maine and Nebraska south to Florida and Texas, then southwest into southern Arizona and virtually all of Mexico. Don't look for them west of the Rocky Mountains, except in southern Arizona and New Mexico; they are a very rare vagrant to California and Oregon.
