Are the AMC huts open in NH?
Latest Update (June 30, 2021): AMC is now operating its New Hampshire high huts for overnight guests at full capacity starting and intends to continue to offer overnight lodging throughout its normal operating season.

At about a mile and a half past Mount Washington, if you are coming from Mt. Madison, the hut is nestled into the side of the mountain next to a good-sized lake. Though $145 a night, if you are not an AMC member, it was completely worth it.

Can you start fires on the Appalachian Trail?
No campfires allowed. AMC Conn. On NPS lands, campfires are prohibited except at the locations specified by the state and in the applicable local management plan. On NPS lands, camping is allowed at designated sites only, for 2 nights, unless the local Trail club states otherwise in its local management plan.
Can you pitch a tent anywhere on the Appalachian Trail?
Dispersed camping is allowed on roughly half of the Trail, with the largest area of land open to dispersed camping concentrated on U.S. Forest Service lands; specific guidance may differ in each forest. No dispersed camping is allowed on the A.T. in the states of Maryland, Connecticut, and Massachusetts.
Can you hike the Appalachian Trail without camping?
It's possible to hike the Appalachian Trail without a tent. That's a shelter about every 8 miles on average. They're free. So "thru-hikers," people who walk the full distance in a continuous hike, often leave the tent at home, saving as much as 5 pounds from their backpacks.
Do the AMC huts have showers?
Two meals, breakfast and dinner, are served in a common dining area, and all of the huts have running water and toilets, but there are no showers or baths. The huts are manned by workers called croo, formerly called Hut Men, back in the old days when the huts were almost exclusively staffed by men.
Are dogs allowed at AMC huts?
Pets are not allowed at AMC Lodges and Huts. Alcohol should be used in a manner that is safe and courteous to oneself and to other guests.
How far apart are AMC huts?

When was Carter Notch Hut built?
Carter Notch Hut. Carter Notch, the eastern anchor of AMC’s hut system was built in 1914, and after more than 100 years, continues to lure those in search of quieter trails and unforgettable summits in this corner of the White Mountains. This hut sits at 3,288 feet with boulder fields and cairns.

How long do you have to leave the theater before a movie starts?
Your theatre will be cleaned and you will be able to enter the auditorium 15 minutes prior to your movie’s start time. Generally audiences may have 15-20 minutes after the show to gather belongings but should exit soon after the show ends to allow the theatre teams proper time to clean for the next showing.

What is AMC's commitment to sustainability?
AMC has a long-standing commitment to using its huts, lodges, and sporting camps as models for sustainable operations and environmental stewardship. At Highland Center we compost food scraps, use a wood boiler for heat and hot water with locally sourced, sustainable firewood, have a solar panel for some electricity needs, use composting toilets in Thayer Hall, and use light fixtures that minimize light pollution.
Where is the trailhead for Ammonoosuc Lake?
Ammonoosuc Lake and Red Bench Trail (Easy): The trailhead is behind (north of) the Highland Center, just to the left of the storage sheds. A beautiful, mostly level, walk around the lake and view of the Presidential Range. The Red Bench Spur at the opposite side of the lake adds another 0.6 miles and offers a view of Mount Washington on a clear day. Estimated time 30 minutes around lake, additional hour to Red Bench.
Where is the Macomber Family Information Center?
The Macomber Family Information Center, open during the summer and fall, is located in the historic Crawford Depot, a former train station renovated by the AMC, and houses interpretive displays, an information desk, and a small gift shop that stocks last-minute hiker supplies, guidebooks, and souvenir items.
What time does the deli serve breakfast?
Dinner and breakfast are included in most room packages. Breakfast is served buffet-style from 6:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Lunch is available from our deli with sandwiches, soups & salads from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dinner is served promptly at 6 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
