Is is throwing any codes? That would be the first place I'd look. Even if the check engine light isn't on, stop by an auto parts place that has a scanner and see if there are any codes stored.

Check the TPS and IAC sensors, and Fuel Relay. If those test out good it it probably your ignition control module. Had the same problem in my 96 5.0. Eventually it will crank and crank, but will not start, or stall on starting. All symptoms of a bad ICM.
