The general rule is: the bigger the size, the higher the RPM needed for a kick of power. If your new throttle body is too big your vehicle will feel tired at lower RPMs, while really taking off powerfully at higher RPMs (when the engine's demand of air flow matches up with the the internal bore'a bigger size).

How do I increase my throttle response?

One of the easiest ways to improve engine and throttle response is by making sure your fuel filter is clean. When you stomp on the gas pedal, it sends a signal for more fuel to go into the engine.

What size is a stock LS throttle body?

Most aftermarket manufacturers produce throttle bodies in the 90-105mm range (some slightly larger) for use with stock and aftermarket LS intakes. Most factory intakes will not accept a throttle blade larger than a 90-92mm due to design with impregnated gasket and bore relation.

So i want to add a new breathing system that is affordable, so I'm debating on getting a throttle body, a spacer, and an intake. However I came across a 80mm throttle body, and the question came to me, what size is my stock throttle body now? and also if there is possibly a throttle body thats bigger then 80mm, but is still direct fit?

Fireman31

Do not waste your money on a TB spacer, they do absolutely nothing except make noise. The cost vs. performance gain of that TB isn't worth it either, stay with the stock 78mm. An air intake kit is always a good modification. Do you have any other mods?

I just purchased a 2011 Silverado with a 4.8 and am looking for ideas to increase power and maybe fuel economy. Already have exhaust. I've heard different opinions on a new intake vs just buying a new filter??? Throttle body spacer and programmer have also been mentioned. Suggestions??? Thanks

yukon25008.1

spacer is a waist of time.. you bought the smallest motor that comes in a fullsize, how much better mileage do you want?

NRSfire82

Ok. Thanks for the input. What are your thoughts on Mass Air Flow Sensors?

KMGZ400

the only thing that will make a noticeable diffrence is a good tune, and after that the only thing that will make a bigger diffrence is a cam, turbo, things of that nature.

KMGZ400

maybe the GMT900's are diffrent, but i own a 2003 4.8 and a 2001 5.3 both with 3.73's and my 5.3 is way faster and feels a lot more powerful

Chris

Nope. I'm in the process. You need the intake manifold off a TBSS or an 07+ 4.8/5.3 for it to work. I am doing the TBSS manifold/rails/injectors to get the 87 mm Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S4 using Tapatalk 4

Chris

What Jenna said. A lot of money and works best with a cam upgrade from what I was told.

Jennabear

I would only recommend going with a larger than OEM throttle body, if you have an FI application (even then, should be a 100mm+ TB). Otherwise, you will see no gains.

Chris

The 75 mm is good that high? I am still trying to find better than 317 heads to run with a GT2-3 cam

Jennabear

Your MAF and your engine will be the limiting factors. I have seen ported/polished TBs that make absolutely no difference. Just throwing money at a part that won't give you much as far as gains, if any.

lots of good info on here, i wish i knew where to find cams and torque converters and other goodies to make my 4.8 wake up... i know id love to get new gears...
