What metric and SAE sizes are the same?
Can you use Metric sockets on SAE fasteners or SAE Sockets on Metric Fasteners? Yes, you can use some sockets on both metric and SAE sizes. However, you need to be careful, as most times they are not exactly the same, and you can strip a bolt by using an SAE socket on a metric bolt and vice versa.
Is 22mm and 7/8 the same?
7/8" is 0.875" and 22mm is 0.866142" which means the 22mm would give a slightly tighter fit and thus be less likely to strip.

Standard sockets that work on Metric bolts (chart)
This socket conversion chart tells you which standard (SAE) socket to use with your metric (mm) fasteners, it is not a measurement conversion chart.
Standard Socket vs Metric Socket Sizes
Standard sockets are measured in inches while metric sockets are measured in milimeters (mm). Depending on the region you live in, one measurement system will be more common than the other. This can become frustrating because different manufacturers also embrace different measurement systems.
What is a 30 mm socket in standard size?
A 30mm socket is 1 3/16" in standard (SAE) size, almost. 1 3/16" converts into 30.163mm so 1 3/16 is the closest standard socket that may fit your 30mm fastener.
What is a 36 mm in standard size?
A 36mm socket is 1 7/16" in standard (SAE) size, almost. 1 7/16" converts into so a 1 7/16 socket is the standard socket that best fits a 36mm fastener.
12-Point Sockets
The 12 -point shape quickly positions on hex fasteners. These sockets are for hand-driven use only.
Spanner Sockets
For easy tightening and loosening, these sockets have pins that grip the slotted sides on bearing nuts. These sockets require less clearance around bearings than standard hook spanner wrenches, so they’re good in tight spaces. Use them with a square-drive wrench handle or a ratchet wrench; they’re not for use with impact wrenches.
Tight-Clearance Offset Sockets
Often used with an extension, these sockets turn fasteners and fittings in obstructed areas that a regular socket can't reach. They are also known as crowfoot wrenches.
6-Point Impact Sockets
Achieve the best possible grip on hex fasteners and prevent rounding. These sockets are made to withstand the high torque and force of impact tools.
Budd Wheel Impact Sockets
Remove and install dual wheels on trucks and trailers— these sockets have a hex recess for accessing lug nuts and a square recess to turn the threaded shafts found on inner wheels. They are made to withstand the high torque and force of impact tools.
