Nissan Altima and Maxima that use Aisin AW55 5-speed automatic transmission have a common gear shift problem. It manifests itself as intermittent shift flares from 2nd to 3rd gear or harsh downshifts from 3th to 2nd. This problem will only be present in the initial phases when cold but usually gets worse with time.
