Montreuil: A new third place offers to rent or repair everyday items

Here we don’t buy, we don’t trade, but we rent, we share and we repair! This is the credo of the “Library of the objects of Montreuil” (BOM), a new third place that should open its doors at the beginning of April in the commune of Seine-Saint-Denis. Supported by the Observatoire du Partage association, this unique place offers the loan of everyday objects at reduced prices and workshops. Goal: to encourage the population to learn and adopt other ways of consuming together.

Workshops to make your objects last a long time

Visitors can use the items for free on site or take them home temporarily and rent them at discounted prices. Drill, shredder, waffle iron, video projector, tent, karcher, steam cleaner, tennis rackets… The range of tools is wide!

Various workshops will also be offered, in particular to make musical instruments from recycled materials, repair the glass of your smartphone, sew your clothes or even promote the importance of the circular economy. “With the BOM, we hope to help many residents of Montreuil and beyond in their daily lives”explains the association behind the project.

Awareness of young people “far from the center”

At the beginning of April, the hall will open its doors to the public. This period will also be spent furnishing the premises, furnishing the workshops and collecting objects for the BOM (which currently has a stock of 300 second-hand objects).

Open days will be organized to test the appreciation of the workshops. Awareness campaigns will also be organized in the neighborhoods of primary schools and colleges “far from the center of Montreuil”, before the official inauguration of the site, which is scheduled for September next year.
